WHAT IF GOOD IS INEVITABLE? \u0003THERE IS A REASON FOR UNSHAKABLE JOY!

Sometimes we can feel that joy seems hard to find\u2013–and seems even harder to keep! But what if joy is really fundamental to our nature? What if it is something all of us have permanently?

\n

Christian Science lecturer Steve Salt, CSB, says, \u201cWhat if we could find the good in life for which our hearts yearn is invulnerable to surrounding events, that it\u2019s never \u2018on the line\u2019 for any reason, actually? If there was a way to trust that, and to prove it, that would give us a compelling reason to have hope. Even a reason for unshakeable joy. Christian Science explains the incredible good endowed on us by God\u2013a good all of us deserve and can even expect\u2013all the time.\u201d

Mr. Salt will share how he was healed of mental darkness, and subsequently regained his sense of joy. Through praying with ideas from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, he was transformed\u2013uplifted by a better understanding of joy as a quality of an all-present, all loving God.

\n

He will also share other healings, thoughts on identity, prayer, and what Jesus taught about joy. And he\u2019ll describe Mary Baker Eddy\u2019s life. She founded Christian Science, wrote Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and modeled a prayerful approach to life, through good happenings and bad, health and sickness, security and poverty, safety and homelessness\u2013prevailing over all of these obstacles, and helping many others along the way.

About the Speaker

\n

I practiced law in France and in the United States for several years. As a litigation \u0003lawyer in France, I used to argue cases in court and I did my best to meet my clients needs. Practicing law was not just my job, it was a passion. To me, being a lawyer meant precision in thinking and a desire to help others get out of trouble.

\n

During those legal years, I got more and more interested in Christian Science. At first, I was just impressed by its remarkable healings and resolutions. As I dug deeper, I found a profound spirituality. To me back then, religion and spirituality meant accepting a system of beliefs and the letting go of discernment and critical thinking. But the more I studied and practiced this deep spirituality, the more I found that it was not about believing in anything. It was about exercising critical thinking in understanding spiritual concepts, which in turn could be applied to my life to bring healing.

\n

Gradually, I gave up my law practice and became a full time Christian Science practitioner. I\u2019m not a lawyer anymore, but I still work to help others get out of trouble, to get out of a sense of limitations, to find more freedom. But the way I see it, Christian Science is not just about feeling better or fixing problems. It\u2019s about being willing to challenge one\u2019s world view as entirely molecule-based and soulless, to be open to see the world as spiritually based, and experience how this change in perspective brings inner peace and healing. It is about understanding more clearly our relationship with God, infinite good. It is about understanding Christ Jesus’ message in a non dogmatic way, bringing healing, harmony and freedom to our life.

About this talk

\n

Higher education can be a life-changing experience for many. It was for me. I loved the adventure of my student days. Yet as my University experience drew to a close an entirely new and unsought adventure came my way when I was introduced to Mary Baker Eddy\u2019s\u00a0Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. This was \u201chigher education\u201d of another kind \u2014 a deep dive into the \u201cthe things of Spirit\u201d and their practical applicability to every facet of life. The book also led me to read and love the Bible.

\n

Led by an intuition not to pursue a conventional career, I wove voluntary work and various freelance roles into periods of time spent quietly studying the \u201ctextbooks of Christian Science\u201d (Science and Health\u00a0and the Bible). I quickly saw the potential of this completely spiritual system of healing when I was healed of recurring sinusitis without drugs and freed from a gambling addiction without counseling or peer group support. My passion became to share this powerful \u201cdivine Science\u201d I benefited from with anyone seeking solutions to unmet needs.

About this talk

\n

What I love about Christian Science is the way it answers pressing questions that come to all of us. Questions like Who am I? Why am I here? How can I find health and happiness? These questions were uppermost in my thought as I entered college. As an undergraduate, I studied music composition at Washington University in St. Louis. Then, I moved to Chicago, where I earned a master\u2019s degree in music. At about the same time, I was introduced to Christian Science and began finding the answers to my questions about identity, purpose, and health. This has made a huge difference in my life.

\u201cSo, what is your heart beating for?\u201d was a question I faced in my late twenties. I was a struggling filmmaker in Los Angeles, experiencing some problems with my heart after a failed marriage and an unsuccessful business venture. On my mental knees in prayer, I opened to a passage in Mary Baker Eddy\u2019s writings that instantly got my attention: \u201cThe heart that beats mostly for self is seldom alight with love.\u201d I realized that the function of the heart is to beat for God; it\u2019s a reflection of divine Love itself. This glimpse of the Christ\u2014the pure love of God embracing humanity\u2014transformed my life and my health. From that day to this, I\u2019ve been doing everything I can to share the healing message of Christian Science with the world.

On my mental knees in prayer, I opened to a passage in Mary Baker Eddy\u2019s writings that instantly got my attention: \u201cThe heart that beats mostly for self is seldom alight with love.\u201d I realized that the function of the heart is to beat for God; it\u2019s a reflection of divine Love itself. This glimpse of the Christ\u2014the pure love of God embracing humanity\u2014transformed my life and my health.
